Sixty South, a company established in the province of Tierra del Fuego, in the Region of Magallanes and the Chilean Antarctic, has become the first salmon producer in the world to achieve ASC certification for all of its aquaculture sites.

The company, which belongs to Nova Austral and was created in 2017, has also been recognized by the industry, retailers and the Seafood Watch Program of the Monterey Bay Aquarium as a "Good Alternative".
From the company, they stand out that its salmon is cultivated in the pure, virgin and frozen waters of Antarctica, without the use of antibiotics and without the danger of pollution produced by other farms, since the closest are 300 km away.
Thanks to its high commitment to comply with the most sustainable cultivation practices, last year it managed to obtain the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification for 100 percent of its sites.
This means that the company can supply its ASC certified salmon to customers throughout the year, making it the only salmon company in the world to have all of its sites certified.
The ASC standard evaluates the environmental performance of each farm alongside the sustainability policy and practices of the company with great focus on its relationship with stakeholders (employees, fishermen, neighbors, authorities, and beyond). Besides, it restricts the use of chemicals and pesticides in the farms.

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAESCA) also issued a special certification to Sixty South verifying its salmon are raised without antibiotics.
The salmon farming company also installed a new hatchery and smolt plant that allows a total integration of its activities.
"We are proud of this development that will enable us to deliver ASC certified volumes to our customers 52 weeks a year. Our good environmental conditions, in the Magallanes region has helped us to achieve this important milestone,” said Nicos Nicolaides, CEO, Sixty South. “ We are continuing our efforts to deliver the Sixty South products to our key customers all over the world in 2019," he concluded.
