Only one Patagonian ship cannot continue exporting to Russia

Only one ship from Patagonia, out of the 51 establishments to which Russia had suspended the authorization to export fishery products to its market, remains in that list.
This was communicated by the National Service of Health and Agrifood Quality (SENASA) spokeswoman, Myriam Lorenzon, to Pescare.com, but could not clarify the reason for this change.
The spokeswoman also explained how the system of addition and removal works: "If a company does not export to that destination for a period of between 18 and 36 months it is restricted, but if it exceeds 36 months in that condition it account is removed".
Last week, there was concern among the companies in the sector about the circulation of a document from SENASA which stated that 51 establishments, between plants and ships, could not continue to export fishery products to Russia.
This decision, made by the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service of that country, had been published on that agency's website, but the reasons for its adoption were not clarified.
Russia ranks tenth among the main destination countries of Argentine seafood exports in 2017. According to statistics from the Undersecretariat of Fisheries, 13,251 tonnes were exported to that destination last year, worth USD 28.6 million.
Some 9,225 tonnes were exported of hake (Merluccius hubbsi) alone, making it the fourth most important market in that segment, and the participation of the Patagonian shrimp is also growing.
