The BioScope is designed in a way that ensures that it does not injure fish or damage nets.

Real-time Monitoring of Weight, Welfare and Lice

  (NORWAY, 9/6/2023)

OptoScale provides precise and accurate weight measurements, and allows to follow the development of fish welfare without manual handling. OptoScale provides you with the data you need to follow the development of the fish. With precise and accurate information you can make better decisions.

OptoScale Analytics

The OptoScale portal displays analyses in real time, seamlessly and regardless of which of OptoScale's modules you subscribe to. This gives you as a user easy access to the various modules and a familiar user interface regardless of which module you are using at any given time. And, as a customer, you can export data continuously via API or to Excel.

The BioScope is the sensory system that is placed in the cage and makes between 10,000 and 40,000 approved measurements every day.

OptoScale has many years of experience of measurement in the challenging environments in which fish farming operates, and have created a measuring instrument that is easy to use, robust, precise and requires a minimum of supervision.

All images are analysed and processed locally using highly advanced technology. By processing locally, the amount of data that needs to be sent is drastically reduced, which allows OptoScale to measure even in places with limited internet coverage. Processed data is sent to the cloud from the accompanying cage cabinet and from there onward to OptoScale's customer portals.

The system can communicate via mobile signals or WiFi so that customers can choose the solution that best suits their installation. The system is supplied complete to ensure simple installation and experience shows that the unit is in operation within 30 minutes of the start of the launch process.

The unit can be handled by one person, is proven over many years, is robust in spite of its advanced technology and requires minimal supervision and maintenance.

Software Modules

  • OptoScale Farming: Module for monitoring daily growth during the production period and to ensure correct reporting to sales and the processing facility. Major discrepancies occur between tables and actual weight development in the production cycle. By making up to 40,000 measurements per cage per day, the data gives a unique insight into fish growth, achieved feed factor at weekly level and development of distribution graphs.

With deviation guaranteed to be lower than 3%, when reporting in to processing facilities and sales customers achieve accurate reports on both average weight and distribution of the individual weight classes. This increases margins by allowing the customer to sell at the right price, order the right transport and avoid wear and tear on internal and external organisation.

  • OptoScale Health: Module to see developments in fish health indicators such as wounds, sexual maturation and deformations. With OptoScale Health you will always know the health status of fish in your pens. Analyze trends and evaluate measures using precise descriptions of changes in health parameters.

The module gives you a full overview of wounds and changes in skin health. Check how much of the population has wounds and whether the wounds are growing or healing. With updated data every day, you will also know when fish have one or more lesions. Then, you can inspect the detected wounds with high-quality photos to analyze the cause and prognosis. In addition, OptoScale Health gives you an overview of maturation and the ability to create precise estimates of slaughter quality.

With OptoScale’s image quality, you can do the inspections valuable to you. Taking a random sample of 20 fish, you can easily evaluate health and welfare without taking fish up from the water.  Zoom in to evaluate lesions of interest. Get a quick overview of cataracts, fin status, deformities or overall skin health. Make health and quality evaluations anywhere and any time you want.

  • OptoScale Lice: With the lice module, you always have access to an updated lice count with high precision. The module provides daily updates on sea lice based on hundreds or thousands of counted fish. You get easy access to the status, development over time and photos of registered lice.

OptoScale Lice has approved a dispensation from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, so that you can avoid regular lice counts when handling fish.

BioScope's software package with access to OptoScale's real-time analysis tool gives you full control over biomass measurements and more.
