Carrefour bets on the Spanish white tuna (Thunnus alalunga)

It will distribute more than seven tons of product this summer, 20% more than in 2022

Carrefour is going to distribute more than seven tons of tuna from the north this summer, which represents an increase of 20% compared to the previous year's campaign. The company has signed an agreement with the Cantabrian brotherhood Nuestra Señora del Puerto de Santoña to supply this fish to all its fishmongers and online stores.

The signing of this agreement ratifies Carrefour's commitment to the Spanish fishing sector. In this sense, in addition to the commitment to market bonito from the north, the company has signed eight agreements to offer consumers swordfish, octopus, red mullet and sea bream from the Roquetas de Mar fish market; meat galley from the Sanlúcar de Barrameda fish market; horse mackerel caught by the Monllor ship from Santa Pola and clochinas from Santa Pola and Valencia.

"The objective of these agreements is to reinforce support for local and regional auctions, contributing to the sustainability of the fleets, eliminating the uncertainty of auctions and offering a stable and competitive price to customers", comments from Carrefour.

As a result of this management, Carrefour sold more than 10,300 tons of fish in 2022, 14% more than the previous year. The company has distributed more than 130 different species from 66 national markets and during 2022 it signed 23 agreements to reinforce support for markets, brotherhoods and ports throughout Spain.
