Friosur bought Pesquera Landes aquaculture division
(CHILE, 9/10/2012)
Friosur SA salmon firm agreed to pay USD 36 million to acquire the aquaculture division Pesquera Landes SA (Landes Fish Farming).
The negotiations to perform this operation had started four months ago, and were conducted by Jorge González and Juan José del Río - Inder executives (Friosur affiliated company) - and Andrés Fosk and Jonathan Bohorodzaner, general manager and director of Landes, respectively.
"The purchase of Landes Fish farming is a sign of our trust on the development and viability of the salmon industry in Chile in the long term, despite the difficulties currently faced by the sector," del Río said.
"I think the conditions for this industry to consolidate into a smaller number of players are taking place just now, and it is the only way to compete in the demanding global salmon market," the entrepreneur added.
Meanwhile, the general manager of Friosur, Joachim Wessel, stressed that "this operation seeks to leverage the complementary and important synergies that Salmones Friosur and Landes Fish Farming have, whose focus on development in both cases is located in Region XI," reported Diario Financiero.
Landes Fish Farming has concessions in five productive neighbourhoods in the Aysén Region; and for 2013 the firm intends to produce around 13,000 tonnes of salmon (Atlantic salmon and trout).
